STORY BEHIND THE DESIGN
Today, SUNBURN just launched the first collection, and it is available at Online Shop, marketplace and selected stockists. We couldn’t be more excited about this whole new line and our team really went next level with their work. From jungle hats with graphics to t-shirts, we went all out to bring you the best Summer Collection possible so you could look fresh during your best Summer.
We spoke with each one of our designers to find out which are their most favorite products, the inspiration behind each piece, and what they had done to make it from a technical standpoint.
SUN OF A BEACH
This graphic is inspired by “fuck and filthy” project from Joshua Gordon back in 2012. Too bad after that I never hear about fuck and filthy anymore. I really enjoyed their blog, though in 2014 it just disappeared, so I dedicated this graphic to all the filthy club around the world.
PESTA PANTAI
Growing up in Carita since the ‘90s, we are all used to wearing oversized t-shirts with dub reggae graphic tees that show a lot of the brand identities and the DNA. The graphic is inspired by Tony Q song called “Pesta Pantai”. It’s very nostalgic, very south beach.
KRAKATAU WORLD TOUR
The idea of this design came out based on what happened back in 1883. The natural disaster happened back in 1883. In early that year on 20 May, the eruption of Krakatau, The Sunda Strait happened. Over 70% of the island of Krakatau and its surrounding archipelago were destroyed as it collapsed into a caldera. The eruption was one of the deadliest and most destructive volcanic events in recorded history.
NEW DAY SAME SUN
Taking from the first name of legendary Bob Marley, this graphic is inspired by his song lyrics called “Sun is Shining”. The design glimmers in the sun make you want to move your dancing feet.
PANAITAN ISLAND
Panaitan is an island in the Sunda Strait, between Java and Sumatra, and in the Indonesian province of Banten. The island has many world-class surfing waves. This graphic allowed us to utilize both of our drawing and design skills, trying to create the Sunburn version of it and representing our island with its culture at the same time.
NEW KIDS ON THE BEACH
Referenced from the famous “New Kids on The Block”. Not really a fan of their music but the name is pretty eye-catching and we just replaced the last original word with “beach”, so new kids on the beach it is.
RING OF FIRE
Bali, an island in the middle of the Ring of Fire which is a linear alignment of volcanoes surrounding the Pacific Ocean. Mount Agung which culminated the island is one of the active volcanoes in Indonesia. This graphic is inspired by the beauty of the island of God, from mount to beach, from Popies to Ubud and their culture. we love it.
CARITA SURF CLUB
Dedicated to all of our homies, Carita Boys. The ones who have always supported and inspire us since day one to make Carita great again. 70% of the profit will be donated to the local community, Carita Surfing Club.
NOMADANCE
A nomadance is a person with no permanent place to dance, keep moving from one party to another and then jumping to the after-party, as a way of obtaining happiness, finding good music, good vibes, also a lifestyle they need.
